Knitted Pettifer Pattern, c.1890

This is a neat pattern of small leaves and is useful for tray-cloths, pincushion covers, the tops of babies' boots, etc. Cast on any number of stitches that can be divided by 6, also 3 extra stitches to keep the pattern even.

1st Row - Slip 1, knit 1, * make 1, knit 1, slip 1, knit 2 together, pass the slipped stitch over, knit 1, make 1, knit 1, repeat from * and knit the last stitch plain.

2nd Row - Purl.

3rd Row - Slip 1, knit 2, * make 1, slip 1, knit 2 together, pass the slipped stitch over, make 1, knit 3, and repeat from *.

4th Row - Purl.

5th Row - Slip 1, knit 2 together, knit 1, * make 1, knit 1, make 1, knit 1, slip 1, knit 2 together, pass the slipped stitch over, knit 1, repeat from * and when within 5 stitches of the end of the row, make 1, knit 1, make 1, knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 1.

6th Row - Purl.

7th Row - slip 1, knit 2 together, * make 1, knit 3, make 1, slip 1, knit 2 together, pass the slipped stitch over, repeat from * and when within 6 stitches of the end of the row, make 1, knit 3, make 1, knit 2 together, knit 1.

8th Row - Purl.

Repeat from the first row for the length required.
