This insertion will be useful for a variety of purposes and may be knitted with any cotton and needles to suit the article for which it is required.

Cast on 24 stitches and knit 1 plain row.

1st Pattern Row - Slip 1, knit 9, knit 2 together, make 2, knit 2 together, knit 10.

2nd Row - Slip 1, knit 11, purl 1, knit 11.

3rd Row - Slip 1, knit 7, knit 2 together, make 2, knit 2 together, knit 2 together, make 2, knit 2 together, knit 8.

4th Row - Slip 1, knit 9, purl 1, knit 3, purl 1, knit 9.

5th Row - Slip 1, knit 5, knit 2 together, make 2, knit 2 together, knit 2 together, make 2, knit 2 together, knit together, make 2, knit 2 together, knit 6.

6th Row - Slip 1, knit 7, purl 1, knit 3, purl 1, knit 3, purl 1, knit 7.

7th Row - Slip 1, knit 3, knit 2 together, make 2, knit 2 together, knit 2 together, make 2, knit 2 together, knit 2 together, make 2, knit 2 together, knit 2 together, make 2, knit 2 together, knit 4.

8th Row - Slip 1, knit 5, purl 1, knit 3, purl 1, knit 3, purl 1, knit 3, purl 1, knit 5.

9th Row - Same as the 5th.

10th Row - Same as the 6th.

11th Row - Same as the 3rd.

12th Row - Same as the 4th.

13th Row - Same as the 1st.

14th Row - Same as the 2nd.

15th Row - Plain [knit].

16th Row - Plain [knit].

Repeat from the first row for the length required.
